The groundbreaking ceremony for the Biskra 220-MW large-scale solar photovoltaic power plant constructed by China Electric Power Construction Group Co., Ltd. (PowerChina) was held on the 22nd in Birnam, Biskra Province, southeastern Algeria. Mohammad Alkab, Minister of Energy and Minerals of Afghanistan, attended the ceremony.
Alkab said at the groundbreaking ceremony that the Biskra 220-MW photovoltaic power station project will play an important role in improving the local energy structure and realizing Algeria's energy transformation strategy. The project will create more than 600 jobs and effectively promote local economic and social development.
Gu Ning, project leader of China Power Construction, told reporters that the Biskra project covers an area of about 400 hectares and contains 379,600 sets of photovoltaic modules, as well as a comprehensive control building, booster station, maintenance workshop, security building, etc. Since PowerChina entered Algeria's new energy field in 2013, it has participated in the construction of a number of large-scale grid-connected photovoltaic power station projects in the country. The overall project has been operating well and has been recognized by the local government and owners.
Recently, photovoltaic power station projects in Algeria constructed by Chinese enterprises have started construction one after another. The groundbreaking ceremony for the 200-MW project undertaken by the Algerian company of China State Construction Engineering Corporation was held on March 25 in the southeastern province of Algeria.
