Recently, Germany's Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) released a report stating that Germany's newly installed photovoltaic capacity reached 1.231GW in October 2023, exceeding 1GW for the eighth consecutive month. From January to October this year, a total of 11.7GW of new photovoltaic installed capacity was added, bringing the total to 79.24GW.
State funding under Germany's Renewable Energy Group (EEG) supported 606MW of new rooftop PV installations in October, as well as 24.7MW of ground-mounted PV and 2.3MW of tenant power projects. The remainder is over 535MW of ground-mounted projects and 12.9MW of rooftop projects awarded in the EEG auction; and 15.9MW of rooftop and 34.3MW of open space unsubsidised projects.
Most of the new photovoltaic installed capacity in the first 10 months of 2023 comes from Bavaria, reaching 2.87GW, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia with 1.79GW, and Baden-Württemberg with 1.53GW.
Germany has been committed to developing renewable energy over the past few decades, and solar photovoltaics is an important part of it. The German government encourages residents and businesses to install rooftop solar power system through various policies and incentives to reduce dependence on traditional energy sources and reduce carbon emissions. The growth of rooftop pv system installations in Germany has also benefited from technological advancements and cost reductions.
