According to data recently released by the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), Germany installed 3.4GW of photovoltaic systems in the second quarter of 2024, a decrease of 10.5% compared with 3.8GW in the same period last year. The installed capacity of photovoltaic systems in January was 1.47GW, 1.14GW in February, and 1.1GW in March.
Germany has set a goal of installing 215GW of photovoltaic systems by 2030, so it needs to increase photovoltaic systems by 22GW each year.
According to data released by the German Federal Network Agency at the end of March, to achieve this goal, Germany needs to install 1587MW of photovoltaic system capacity per month.
Bavaria, Saxony, Baden, Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia are at the top of the list for installed PV capacity in Germany, accounting for nearly 63% of the installed PV capacity in Germany in the second quarter of this year.
The German government approved a $63.3 billion green investment plan in August last year to help the development of renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions.
In January this year, the German Federal Network Agency reduced the electricity price cap for the 2024 rooftop PV system auction from 0.1125 euros/kWh (about $0.12/kWh) in 2023 to 0.105 euros/kWh (about $0.12/kWh). The electricity price cap for ground-mounted PV systems is 0.737 euros/kWh (about $0.80/kWh), which remains the same as in 2023.
In July 2023, Germany held an auction for 191MW of rooftop PV systems that was 79% oversubscribed, with 155 bids received for a total installed capacity of 342MW. In the end, 79 bids were accepted for a total installed capacity of 193MW.
