At the end of December, Solar Power Europe released its market outlook for 2023-2027: the EU's solar installed capacity will reach a record high of 56GW in 2023, much higher than the 40GW added in 2022.
This year is the third consecutive year that the European solar market has grown by at least 40%. It is expected that by 2024, the growth rate of photovoltaic installed capacity in the EU will slow down to 11%. In this way, in 2024, the EU's new installed capacity is expected to reach 62GW. In 2023, Germany will return to the top of the list with 14.1GW. This is followed by Spain (8.2GW), Italy (4.8GW), Poland (4.6GW) and the Netherlands (4.1GW). In Central and Eastern Europe, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania all exceeded the 1GW threshold in annual new solar installations.
Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe, said that solar has already helped Europe in crisis and now Europe must help solar because it has not yet achieved the average annual deployment of 70GW required by 2030.
As of the end of November, the total installed photovoltaic capacity in Germany has exceeded 80.74GW. Accelerating the transformation of the German power system to 100% renewable energy is an important commitment of the country's government since taking office at the end of 2021. The results of two years of efforts have given people reason to be optimistic that the renewable energy target will be 100% achieved by 2030, of which the power generation contribution ratio can reach 80%.
