The installament of solar power capacity in Italy reached 2.4GW in 2022. It has begun to return to the same level as before the 21st century.
This trending will continue in 2023. Paolo Viscontini, president of the Italian Solar Energy Industry Association, said that the installed capacity is expected to reach at least 4GW in the spring of 2023, and may even reach 5GW. This is such a high figure that could only be found more than 10 years ago. Large-scale ground-mounted solar projects are seeking exports.
This year, about 47% of Italy's solar power came from residential projects. One of the main drivers of solar power generation comes from the 110% Super Incentive Scheme, which supports the installation of solar racks, solar modules and battery storage in the user market.
According to PV Tech, Italy’s residential, industrial and commercial solar markets are mainly concentrated in the northern region. Following the fires this year, four of the top five regions with the highest installed solar photovoltaic capacity are from the North. The gap between the north and the south extends beyond photovoltaic, as the south is dominated by large-scale solar ground-based projects. The most important aspect of large-scale ground-based projects may be solar farm project . Italy is one of the largest agriculture countries in Europe and will further develop it. It is foreseeable that agricultural photovoltaic projects will grow rapidly in the next few years. This provides solar mounting system manufactures with the development direction of solar ground mounts and agricultural brackets.
