Malaysia's Ministry of Energy Transformation and Water Transformation (PETRA) has announced an incentive program called the People's Solar Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS) to encourage residential energy consumers to adopt solar energy. The program is open to all Malaysian citizens with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) accounts as well as citizens applying for the NEM project for the first time.
The SolaRIS scheme is based on the Net Energy Metering Scheme (NEM) and the government will provide RM1,000 to RM4,000 (equivalent to Cash subsidies ranging from US$211 to US$843)/kWAC. PETRA has approved a quota of 350MW for the NEMRakyat scheme, with the submission window to apply for subsidies open from April 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024 (or until the quota is exhausted), and solar systems must be installed on March 31, 2025 put into use before.
Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and head of PETRA, said: ''With this resolution, the Ministry of Energy and Water Transformation (PETRA) believes that Solaris can attract more domestic users to participate and enjoy the benefits of installing solar systems in their homes, further promoting energy transformation aspirations and our country's 2050 carbon neutrality goal.”
