According to data released by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the installed capacity of photovoltaic systems in the UK has reached 15.9GW so far.
The report pointed out that the UK photovoltaic market was relatively slow at the beginning of this year, with small photovoltaic systems accounting for the majority of new photovoltaic systems. As the UK general election approaches, industry experts call on the next government to take quick action to address key issues affecting the growth of photovoltaic system installed capacity.
Mark Sommerfeld, deputy director of policy at the Renewable Energy and Clean Technology Association (REA), said the latest deployment data showed that the UK was already behind in achieving its target of installing 70GW of PV systems by 2035. He said: "The current installed capacity of PV systems is about 16GW, and a step change is clearly needed.
Achieving this goal requires accelerating the installation of PV systems and making full use of appropriate locations for installing rooftop PV systems and ground-mounted PV systems. It is encouraging that the market for small-scale PV systems is developing well, however, accelerating the installation of PV systems also means installing more large-scale utility-scale PV power plants. The good news is that the industry already has a large number of PV projects ready."
