Vietnam's New Rooftop Photovoltaic Policy: 100% Excess Power Capacity Can Be Purchased

The Government Office of Vietnam issued Notice No. 356/TB-VPCP on July 30, 2024, which comprehensively summarizes the important conclusions of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on formulating and promulgating the decree on incentive mechanisms and policies for independent production and independent development.

The announcement clearly pointed out that the formulation of mechanisms and policies to encourage the development of self-produced and self-used rooftop solar energy is of great significance for mobilizing social resources, promoting the development of renewable energy, and meeting the economic expectations and needs of the people.

In order to accelerate the advancement of the decree and ensure the quality, feasibility, applicability and effectiveness of its implementation, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha specifically pointed out that the Ministry of Industry and Trade needs to further improve the concept of "self-production and self-use" of rooftop solar energy. To this end, the decree has added relevant provisions on the proportion of electricity sales, clarifying that self-production and self-use solar power generation accounts for 90% of the total capacity, while the proportion sold to the national grid does not exceed 10%.

At the same time, according to the characteristics of each region and the actual power supply situation, the Vietnamese government will formulate corresponding policies to encourage and mobilize the development of solar power generation.
